Abstract:
The G-line
project expanded the CHESS facility by one third - from 9 experimental
stations to 12. For the Cornell faculty and research groups involved,
the construction of the G-line stations offered a rare opportunity for
students to be involved in the design and construction of x-ray
beamlines and stations. They also worked closely with CHESS staff who
helped out with the fabrication and installation over the course of the
past year. This talk will summarize briefly the four year history of
G-line, from its inception at a brainstorming session in 1997, to a
whirlwind 4 months of civil construction, through a hurried 9 week
optics build this past winter, up to the final optics installation and
commissioning scheduled for summer 2004.
